In the waning months of 1951, a small but ambitious group of Deputy Sheriffs, County Marshals and District Attorney Investigators banded together to protect their jobs, their ideals and their future.

Today, we preserve the same bond which formed the Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association 57 years ago. The integrity behind PPOA's inception remains the greatest asset of our Association, now 8,500 members strong.

2nd Annual Peace Officer Memorial Golf Tournament a Huge Success!

PPOA is proud to report that 140 golfers and more than 40 volunteers all contributed to a great cause and a great day of golf on June 2, 2008. The day began with an impressive ceremony, complete with drum roll, national anthem, and the LASD Color Guard presentation of flags -- a tremendous reminder of why we were all there. Proceeds will be used to assist families of peace officers killed in the line of duty.

Golfers included Sheriff Baca, John March (father of late Deputy David March), Emma Powell (widow of late Deputy David Powell), Judge Phil Hickok (recently handed down death penalty sentence in the case of late Deputy Jerry Ortiz) along with a handful of celebrities.

Lowest score honors went to the foursome led by PPOA insurance broker (and retired deputy) Guy Mato. Second place: Jan's Tow foursome. Third place: District Attorney foursome.

Big winner of the day was Evan Fish (friend of County Police Bureau Chief Bill Nash), who held the winning raffle ticket for the custom-painted Harley Davidson motorcycle.

PPOA is especially thankful to the firm of Lewis, Marenstein, Wicke & Sherwin -- the title sponsor of the tournament for the second year in a row.
